In Debt to God: 100% Pass Mark

In debt to God

As a matter of interest; what do you have to offer to God as payment for your sin? If you reject Christ, what will you say to God when you meet Him?

Will you say,'I tried my best to be a good person'? 'Yes, I admit that I said and did things that were wrong, but I never really hurt anyone and I certainly never killed anyone. I never really did anything that deserves imprisonment or death.'

Now let's just follow this line of thinking for a moment. So far, you are making a case for 'your good behaviour'. 

Well, on that basis, we are establishing a kind of 'pass mark', a bit like sitting an exam, if you like.

So then, what about other people who have not been just as 'good as you'? Say for example, someone who really has 'hurt other people', by their words or their actions.

What about people who have been summoned to court for driving offences or criminal offences or people who have gone to prison?

Do they need Christ in a way that you don't?

Pass mark = 100% 

Think of it like this. What if there was an exam that you had to pass and the pass mark was strictly applied to all participants at 100%. The governing board have made this decision; 100% is the only pass mark.

Some individuals only achieved 50% or less. They clearly failed the test. But what about someone who achieved 95% or more, even 99%? The rule was made; 100% or no pass will be granted.

100% = Zero tolerance

God has set a pass mark for humanity at 100%. No sin! The only way that anyone can get into heaven is by living a life with no sin; never saying a bad word, never losing your temper, never being jealous or envious, always being good to others. No exceptions.

Well, we all know only too well, that this is an impossible ask! Of course it is. But Jesus Christ, God's Son lived like this. That is why His death was acceptable to God the Father as the atoning sacrifice for the sin of the world.

Here's the thing;

Romans 3 v 23

There is no difference between Jew and Gentile, 23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24 and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.

We are born in sin. Parents never need to teach their children how to do what is wrong; that comes naturally. Why? Because of what the above Scripture tells us; "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God"

God has provided a way for us to reach the 100% Pass mark. This happens when we ask God to forgive our sins and when we ask the Lord Jesus to be our Saviour.

Human Conscience

We are condemned to death and hell at the moment of birth, before we ever speak a word or do anything. We are 'born in sin'. This stems from the Fall of Man in the Garden of Eden.

Therefore, as we grow up, we continue to live in sin, in everything that we say and do there is the potential of getting it wrong.

Why is it that we have a conscience? Why is it that we constantly evaluate our words and actions before and after we say and do everything?

This is because we are moral beings who have been made in the likeness and image of God our creator. But, we are fallen, sinful creatures! This is precisely why we need a Saviour!

Ephesians 2 v 8-9

8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9 not by works, so that no one can boast. 

None of us can ever hope to achieve 100% in God's exam. We are born in sin, we are hopeless. We need Jesus who died to save us.

Will you trust Him or reject Him? The decision is yours!
