Headline news!

If Bill Gates (Microsoft), Larry Page (Google), Mark Zuckerberg (Facebook) or Elon Musk (SpaceX) announced to the world that they have discovered an anti-aging formula that could guarantee a lifespan of 200 years or that they have discovered a new cyber technology or artificial intelligence that could extend life beyond this age; their message would go viral on Social Media and the whole world would know about it within a matter of days if not hours!

Not only would their message go viral; millions of people across the world would be willing to pay for their newly found products and services and the world's richest elite would be first in the queue. The ensuing Media frenzy would send world organisations into a spin; World Governments, the World Health Organisation, pharmaceutical giants, global statisticians and I suppose even global Stock Markets would be affected.

Fact or fiction?

The modern day church is 'sitting' on a message that goes far beyond this; we have the message of the free gift of God that cancels all our sins and leads to everlasting life in the presence of God. This everlasting life will be lived in the surroundings of a new heaven and new earth which are eternal and incorruptible. What a message we have to share with a broken world! What a message we have to share with broken and disillusioned people! May God awaken us, equip us, and empower us to share this wonderful news!

It is reckoned that there are now more people alive on planet earth than have ever lived and died in all of human history! Post-Flood world population reached 1 billion in 1804, 2 billion in 1927, 3 billion in 1960, 4 billion in 1974, 5 billion in 1987, 6 billion in 1999 and 7 billion in 2012.

 According to the bible, from the time of the Flood c 2400 BC until AD 1804, it took c 4200 years for earth's population to reach 1 billion and within 200 years the population has increased from 1 billion to over 7 billion!

"Don’t you have a saying, ‘It’s still four months until harvest’? I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest."

Do you love your neighbours enough to tell them about Eternity? Have you taken time to talk to your neighbours about Jesus and God's free gift of everlasting life? Why are we so quiet when we possess the greatest news that could ever be told?

I know from personal experience and from talking to many other Christians, that although our neighbours may be aware that we are 'church goers'; yet we have never made it our business to present to them the 'Good News' of the gospel or any 'Warning about Eternity'.

Most of us eat our meals, watch TV and sleep in beds that are a stones throw from our nearest neighbours who are heading to hell for all eternity! How can we be comfortable with this? If every Christian that you know made a solid commitment to engage with their immediate neighbours and friends to tell them about the good news of the gospel; we would experience a revival that would see many thousands of people saved. This can be done in a meaningful and interesting way, for example, arrange a Q&A evening in your home on bible topics such as creation or the apocalypse or invite your neighbours over to watch a Christian video - why not?

There are some brilliant videos available on YouTube by Ray Comfort which are based on random street conversations with real people and deal with interesting topics such as evolution and atheism. These are great for starting meaningful conversations and create the ideal opportunity to introduce the gospel. A great example of this is a video called 'The Atheist Delusion'.

COVID-19 and associated social distancing have changed how church functions. This has created a whole new range of opportunities for us to engage with non-Christian neighbours in a fresh and meaningful way. We need to pray and plan for post COVID-19 and seek God for guidance but we do need to mobilise and engage with people who are heading for a lost eternity in hell. I know what I plan to do; do you?
